She Said/ I say
If you are reading this and you haven’t already read Little Women by Lousia May Alcott or watched the 2019 Little Women, I’m going to try not to judge but hurry and watch/read it.
In Little Women, Joe March, my personal favorite and whom I reside most with, said “They (referring to women) have minds as well as just hearts, and they have souls as well as just beauty, and I am so sick, I AM SO sick of people saying that love is all a woman is fit for. I am so sick of it! But I'm so lonely. I want a happily ever after Marmie, I really do. But I want my freedom more.”
The main reason is to why Joe March resides with me the most is because of her frustration and rage of “throwing in the white flag”. Going your entire life with walls up and always standing firm on opinions just to be hit with pure loneliness and the only way, that’s NORMALIZED, is to marry. But many people say, “you don’t have to give up your freedom or voice when you marry!”, well unfortunately in the time period, you did have to give all that up.
Her rage stims from the feeling of not wanting to submit to society norms, and who can blame her?
